Most flights to Asia, the Maldives, or Australia fly via Dubai. But many cruises also dock in Dubai. To take advantage of this stopover, many travelers stay in Dubai for one or more days.
Visa for a Stopover in Dubai?
German citizens do not need to apply for a visa for a stopover in Dubai. At passport control, you will generally receive a visitor visa, which is valid for 90 days. Travelers who make only one stopover in Dubai will obtain a visa with a validity of 96 hours. But enough to explore the Arab Emirate!
It is also worth mentioning that you should allow approximately one hour for the entry (pick up of the visa).
If you are visiting the city of superlatives for the first time, you should inform yourself about the city and rules of conduct in advance. With our two articles, "Travel Info" and "About Dubai" you are guaranteed to be well prepared.
Transport to the Center
Most travelers want to go to the center of Dubai during their stopover in Dubai: downtown. The easiest way to get there is by taxi, which is comparatively cheap and waits directly at the airport exit. The journey to the center takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Of course, you can also take the metro, but then you should plan a little more time.
If you arrive in Dubai on a cruise ship, the easiest way to get to the center is to take a shuttle bus. You can find more information about this in our detailed article about cruises in Dubai.

Nowhere else is the choice of activities and sights higher than in Dubai. Therefore it is a challenge to explore Dubai in only 24 hours. To make sure you don't miss anything, we will show you some attractions that you should not miss during your stopover in Dubai.
Travel with the Hop On Hop Off Bus
With a Hop On Hop Off tour, you kill two birds with one stone. Because with a Hop On Hop Off bus, you can reach all the sights quickly and comfortably. Perfect as a means of transport for the next few hours. You also have a beautiful view of the city.
Stroll through the world's largest shopping mall, and don't miss the highlights of the Dubai Mall! These include an indoor ice rink, a waterfall, and the Gold Souk. The food court in the upper area of the Dubai Mall is also worth a visit!
Dubai Aquariums & Underwater Zoo
Furthermore, the Dubai Mall is home to the world's largest indoor aquarium. Through a tunnel through the aquarium, you can discover 33,000 marine animals, including numerous rays and sharks.
One highlight in Dubai is the world's tallest building: the Burj Khalifa. From there, you have an incredible view of the city. How far up you dare to go depends entirely on you. But we promise you: the further up you go, the better the view. You can reach the entrance directly from the Dubai Mall. To make it easier for you to choose the ticket on different floors, we have compared all the Burj Khalifa tickets for you.
Ferris wheel Ain Dubai
The tour continues with the Hop On Hop Off bus from the Dubai Mall to the world's largest Ferris wheel, the Ain Dubai. From there you have a wonderful view of the Persian Gulf and the skyline of Dubai. With a bit of luck, you will arrive in time for the sunset.
There is no better place to end the day in Dubai. Because in Dubai Marina, especially in the evening, there are many people. While strolling along the canal and watching the yachts, look out for a great restaurant or bar. Our tip: Pier 7 is guaranteed to be a great place to find something for everyone!
48 h: Experience Dubai in Two Days
If you can spend another day in Dubai, here are some suggestions for the second day in Dubai:
Another of Dubai's landmarks is the artificially created palm island Palm Jumeirah. The best way to explore the Palm Jumeirah again is to take a Hop On Hop Off bus, from where you can see all the hotspots of the islands. Because even if you don't think so, the Palm Jumeirah is too big and vast to explore on foot. A real highlight on the island is the luxury hotel Atlantis. Here, it is worth to get out for a short while and have a close look at the hotel.
The next stop is the Palm Tower, which is located in the center of the Palm Jumeirah. From the 360-degree viewing platform "The View of the Palm," you have an incredible view of the entire Palm Island as well as the skyline of Dubai. It is also worth strolling through the adjacent Nakheel Mall.
Burj al Arab
Of course, one thing must not be missing during your stay in Dubai: A visit to the world's most luxurious hotel: the Burj al Arab. Of course, the hotel is a real eye-catcher from the outside. But from the inside, it inspires even more. But it is not that easy to get inside the Burj al Arab. Therefore, we recommend that you book in advance, for example, an afternoon snack with café and pastries or a lunch menu at the Burj al Arab. This is the only way to gain access to the Burj al Arab.
Old Dubai & Dhow Ride
No contrast could be higher than that between the Burj al Arab and old Dubai. From magnificent and luxurious architecture, we now move on to Old Dubai at Dubai Creek. To the roots of Dubai, where Dubai is still wholly unpolished. Discover there the traditional spice and gold souks while strolling through narrow streets. An absolute must in old Dubai is a trip on an abra across Dubai Creek.
Dubai Fountain Show
In the evening, when the city turns into a sea of lights, there is hardly a more beautiful place than the square in front of the Burj Khalifa. Because at Burj Lake, there is a gigantic fountain show with music every 30 minutes from 6 pm. A perfect end to your stay in Dubai.
