Dubai the Frame - the world's largest picture frame
In January 2018, Dubai once again added an attraction. The Dubai Frame was opened. In addition to a new top sight, Dubai also gained a world record. The Dubai Frame is the largest picture frame in the world.
The Dubai Frame is like a huge picture frame with two great motifs. Depending on the viewing direction, visitors can see either the new Dubai in the southwest or the old Dubai in the north. Inside the picture frame is a lift to a viewing platform with a glass floor. This platform connects the two columns of the Dubai Frame.
A viewing platform for people without a fear of heights
The viewing platform offers a magnificent view over the entire metropolis. A view like no other building. The glass floor on the bridge is the highlight of the attraction: a view down from a height of about 150 meters. Definitely not for people with a fear of heights. But for all those who are up to the height and want to experience something unique, the Dubai Frame is an absolute must! But don't worry: the glass floor is triple-secured.
The Dubai Frame is located directly at Zabeel Park. Thus, it connects the new Dubai with the old Dubai. If you look through the magnificent picture frame towards the north, old Dubai is framed. You get a view of the Al Karma and Deira districts. You can even make out Dubai Creek with its typical dhows and the many souks. Towards the south, one looks at the new Dubai. Characterized by pompous skyscrapers, luxurious marinas, numerous luxury hotels, and shopping malls.
More than just a viewing platform
The viewing platform offers a 360° experience at a height of 150 meters. From there, a view of the entire skyline with its landmarks is revealed. Above all, it also shows the diversity of Dubai. The sandy beaches, the Persian Gulf, the fascinating silhouette, and the surrounding kilometer-long desert.
Visitors are given about 15 minutes on the viewing platform of the Dubai Frame. However, it must be said that time is not controlled by anyone. Due to this time regulation, it is never too crowded at the top of the platform. There is plenty of space to enjoy the view and take beautiful souvenir photos.
In addition to the beautiful view of the Arab emirate, you can also drink a coffee or enjoy small treats in the upper area of the Dubai Frame. There are also several interactive screens where you can, for example, snap fun souvenir photos or explore Dubai in a playful way.
In the Dubai Frame, visitors are sent on a journey through time
Visitors to the Dubai Frame take a journey through time to the old, current, and future Dubai. Even before going up to the viewing platform, visitors are admitted to a museum. There, the nostalgic and new Dubai can be experienced. It also shows the development of Dubai from a small fishing village to today's luxury city. Here you have the opportunity to experience the city as it once was. This is made tangible through installations, projections, and smells.
After taking a step back in time, visitors take a panoramic lift up to the observation deck. There, visitors have time to explore Dubai on a 360° viewing platform. Animated touch screens help to identify famous buildings and sights. You also get lots of interesting information about the buildings and districts. Furthermore, there are various stations with exciting information about the frame itself. For example, it shows how solar energy is to be used sustainably there.
Once back at the bottom, you travel further into Dubai's future: 2050. The path leads through a time travel tunnel. Dubai's future is visualized here with image and sound animations. With the help of projections and VR installations, visitors are shown how Dubai will change in the coming years. Future buildings can already be explored there. You can find out more about the future plans in Dubai in this article.
The entrance fee for the museum and the time travel tunnel is of course already included in the tickets.
Magnificent architecture by Fernando Donis
The Dubai Frame was designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis. The picture frame consists of two 150-meter-high towers. The picture frame is closed by a 93-meter-long and 100-square-meter bridge. In the middle of the bridge is a 25 square meter glass floor. From there, one has a beautiful view of Zabeel Park.
The frame is clad in gold-stainless steel cladding. It is inspired by the playful logo for Expo 2020.
The Dubai Frame building was only built for the great view and to connect the old and modern Dubai. Therefore, there are no offices or hotels in the building.
Location of the Dubai Frame
Due to its ideal location directly at Zabeel Park, it is a good idea to combine the popular park with a visit to the Dubai Frame. Zabeel Park offers numerous leisure activities. For example, boat rides, sports fields, barbecue areas, and picnic tables. There are also numerous exhibitions in the park. The "Barcode Garden" or the "Alternative Energy Zone" with interactive installations are particularly recommended.
Even the entrance area around the Dubai Frame invites you to linger. There is a small, cute outdoor café with delicious daily specials and a water feature directly in front of the Dubai Frame. Furthermore, the lush green meadows with various flowers invite you to have a short picnic with a view of the gigantic picture frame.
