The Dubai Frame - The World's Largest Picture Frame

In January 2018 another attraction was added to Dubai. The Dubai Frame was opened. In addition to being a new top attraction, Dubai also set a new world record because the Dubai Frame is the largest picture frame in the world.

The Dubai Frame resembles a huge picture frame with two great motifs. Depending on the viewing direction, visitors see either the new Dubai in the southwest or the old Dubai in the north. Inside the picture frame, there is an elevator to a viewing platform with a glass floor. This platform connects the two columns of the Dubai frame.

A Viewing Platform for People Without Fear of Heights

From the viewing platform, you have a wonderful view over the whole metropolis. A view like no other building can give. The glass floor on the bridge is the highlight of the attraction: a view downwards from a height of approximately 150 metres. Definitely not for people who are afraid of heights! however, for all those who are okay with heights and want to experience something unique, the Dubai Frame is an absolute must! Don't worry though- the glass floor is triple-secured.

The Dubai Frame is located directly at Zabeel Park. It connects the new Dubai with the old Dubai. Looking north through the magnificent picture frame, the old Dubai is framed. One gets a view of the districts Al Karma and Deira. Even the Dubai Creek with its typical Dhaus and the many souks can be seen. To the south, one looks at the new Dubai. It's characterized by pompous skyscrapers, luxurious marinas, numerous luxury hotels and shopping malls.

More Than Just a Viewing Platform

The viewing platform offers a 360° experience at a height of 150 meters. From there you can see the entire skyline with its landmarks. Above all, it shows Dubai's diversity. For example, the sandy beaches, the Persian Gulf, the fascinating silhouettes and the surrounding kilometer-long desert.

Visitors are given about 15 minutes on the viewing platform of the Dubai Frame. However, it must be said that time is not controlled by anyone. Due to this time limit, it is never too full at the top of the platform. You have enough space to comfortably enjoy the view and to take nice souvenir photos.

In addition to the beautiful view of the Arab Emirate, you can also enjoy a cup of coffee or small delicacies in the upper part of the Dubai Frame. There are also several interactive screens where you can, for example, take funny souvenir photos or explore Dubai in a playful way.

Journey Through Time

Visitors of the Dubai Frame undertake a journey through time into the old, current and future Dubai. Before heading up to the viewing platform, visitors are given admission to a museum. There, both the nostalgic and the new Dubai will be brought to life. In addition, the development of Dubai from a small fishing village to today's luxury city is shown there. Here you have the opportunity to experience the city as it used to be. This can be experienced through installations, projections, and smells.

After the visitors have taken a trip back in time, they take a panorama elevator up to the viewing platform. There, visitors have time to explore Dubai on a 360° viewing platform. Animated touch screens help to identify famous buildings and sights. You can also get a lot of interesting information about the buildings and districts. In addition, there are various stations with exciting information about the frame itself. For example, it shows how to use solar energy sustainably.

Back at the bottom, you travel further into the future of Dubai to 2050. The path leads through a time travel tunnel. The future of Dubai is visualized here with image and sound animations. With the help of projections and VR installations, visitors are shown how Dubai will change in the coming years. Future buildings can already be explored there. More about the future plans in Dubai can be found in this article.

The entrance fee for the museum and the time travel tunnel is of course already included in the tickets.

Magnificent Architecture by Fernando Donis

The Dubai Frame was designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis.
The picture frame consists of two towers 150 meters high. The picture frame is closed by a 93 meter long and 100 square meters large bridge. In the middle of the bridge, there is a 25 square meter glass floor. From there you have a wonderful view of Zabeel Park.
The frame is covered with a gold-stainless steel casing. It is based on the playful logo for Expo 2020.

The Dubai Frame building was built just for the great view and to connect the old and modern Dubai. Therefore there are no offices or hotels in the building.

Location of the Dubai Frame

Due to the ideal location directly at Zabeel Park, it is possible to combine the popular park with a visit to the Dubai Frame. Zabeel Park offers numerous leisure activities. For example, boat trips, sports fields, barbecue areas, and picnic tables. There are also many exhibitions in the park. Especially recommended is the "Barcode Garden" or the "Alternative Energy Zone" with interactive installations.
The entrance area around the Dubai Frame already invites visitors to linger. There is a small outdoor café with tasty dishes of the day and a water feature directly in front of the Dubai Frame. Furthermore, the lush green meadows with various flowers invite one to have a short picnic with a view of the gigantic picture frame.
